The PM Internship Scheme

A Government of India initiative to provide 1 crore youth with real-world internship experience in the country’s top 500 companies over five years.

🎓Eligibility

Indian citizens aged 21–24, not in full-time employment or full-time education. Open to Class 10/12 pass, ITI, diploma holders and graduates (BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma).

💰Stipend

₹5,000/month — ₹4,500 from the Government via DBT and ₹500 from the host company’s CSR funds, plus a one-time ₹6,000 joining grant.

📅Duration

A structured 12-month internship, with at least half the time in a real working environment rather than classroom training.

🛡Insurance

Interns are covered under PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY); premiums are paid by the Government.

🏅Certificate

A recognised completion certificate on finishing the internship, boosting your resume and future employability.

Eligibility criteria in detail

Age limit

Applicants must be between 21 and 24 years of age at the time of application.

Educational qualification

Candidates who have passed Class 10 or 12, or hold an ITI certificate, a diploma, or a graduate degree such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA or B.Pharma are eligible.

Who cannot apply

  • Graduates from IIT, IIM, IISER, IIIT, NID or NLU.
  • Holders of qualifications like CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, or any Master’s or higher degree.
  • Candidates whose family income exceeds ₹8 lakh per year, or where a family member is a permanent/regular government employee.

Required documents

  • Aadhaar card (for identity and e-KYC).
  • Educational certificates / mark sheets.
  • Bank account linked to Aadhaar for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
  • Recent passport-size photograph.

Selection & registration process

Registration is entirely online and free. After creating an account and completing your profile, you upload documents, shortlist up to five preferred internships, and submit. Partner companies then shortlist candidates, and selected interns receive an offer through the portal followed by document verification and onboarding.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Entering details that don’t match your official documents.
  • Using a bank account not linked to Aadhaar (delays your stipend).
  • Applying to unrelated roles instead of ones matching your skills.
  • Missing the application deadline for the cycle.
